Regular verbs in the present tense
When do we use the present tense?
The present in Spanish is used to express:
- Permanent facts and conditions: Ella vive en Barcelona (She lives in Barcelona)
- Routines and usual actions: Yo trabajo hasta las 17 hs. (I work until 5pm)
- Events in history: Argentina declara su independencia en 1816 (Argentina declares its independence in 1816)
- How long has an action been in progress: Ellos estudian ingles desde hace tres años (They have been studying English for three years)
- Future actions accompanied by a time reference: Nosotros vamos a tu casa el próximo domingo (We'll go to your house next Sunday).
How are verbs conjugated?
Remember that in Spanish, infinitive verbs can end in "ar", "er" or "ir". For example:
- caminar (to walk)
- correr (to run)
- vivir (to live)
To conjugate any verb, remove the ending from the infinitive and add the ending of each pronoun
